About Aavaran Craft Community

Reviving the Dabu Print of Rajasthan

Founded in 2011 by Alka Sharma in Udaipur, Aavaran was born from a desire to revive and sustain the centuries-old Dabu mud-resist printing tradition of Akola, Rajasthan. Working closely with the Chhipa community, Aavaran preserves this intricate craft, where mud, lime, and gum are combined to create natural resists that give rise to timeless indigo patterns. The brand redefines heritage through contemporary design, empowering rural artisans, especially women, through fair employment and skill training. Rooted in sustainability and slow fashion, Aavaran transforms traditional craft into modern elegance
