About the Craft
Bagru printing, practiced by the Chhipa community near Jaipur, is known for its use of natural dyes and earthy compositions. The process begins with soaking fabric in harad (myrobalan) for tannin, then printing with dyes made from iron filings for black, madder for red, and indigo for blue. Sunlight and repeated washing fix the colors and deepen their tone.
The iron-rich water of Bagru enhances dark hues, while the dry desert climate supports natural dyeing — giving each piece its signature warmth and raw, organic character.
