About Ababil Bandhani Craft Community

Modern Expressions of Bandhani

Founded by Aziz Bhai Khatri and his brother Suleman in Nakhatrana, Kutch, Ababil Bandhani traces its roots to the village of Bhadli, where their family has practised the art of tie-dye for over seven generations. What began as a small family tradition has evolved into a contemporary Bandhani studio that bridges heritage and modern design. The brothers lead complementary roles, Aziz spearheads design and innovation, while Suleman oversees production and market development. Their artisans specialise in Raindana Bandhani, creating intricate resist-dyed patterns on silk and wool. By introducing new colours, techniques, and consumer-led design thinking, Ababil sustains both livelihood and legacy, ensuring that the 5,000-year-old art of Kutch Bandhani continues to thrive in today’s world.
